Frequently Asked Questions

General Information

  • My clinical recommendation is at least 4-5 weekly sessions to build our relationship and set goals. After that, weekly is recommended until we have met your goals. Many people want biweekly therapy because it is time and cost effective but it is not clinically advised until you are in a maintenance phase of therapy. I offer once a month sessions for those who may require a “tune-up” from time to time.

  • I offer both virtual and in person therapy, or a combination of the two in a hybrid model. My office is located at 3195 California Street in San Francisco. I am currently only in the office on Thursday afternoons and I try to reserve that time for small children (12 years old and under) since the creative and playful interventions used with this age are often easier in person. Sometimes people would like to meet in person 1-3 times to build a relationship and then transfer to virtual sessions. I am open to exploring what hybrid options would work best for you.

  • My fee is $220 for a 50 minute therapy hour. I also offer longer sessions at the same rate per minute. $264 for 60 minutes, $330 for 75 minutes, and $396 for 90 minute EMDR instensives.

  • I do not accept insurance and am considered an “Out-of-Network” provider. I can create a Superbill to submit to your insurance company, which could lead to reimbursement depending on your plan. You can call your insurance and ask about your reimbursement rate for therapy codes 90837 and 90834. For telehealth, add the code 95 which accounts for the fact that therapy will be over video as this could change your reimbursement rate. I also accept FSA/HSA cards.

  • Access to therapy is very important to me and a core value of my practice. I set aside one third of my practice to a sliding scale rate. Please inquire about rates and eligibility.

  • You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical and mental health care will cost.

Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services.

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services.  You can ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service.

If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.

Understanding EMDR

  • Once we build a relationship and are in the processing stages of EMDR, we may schedule 90 minute sessions or longer to go deeper and faster. This is always an option but is not necessary. People might also engage in half-day or multi-day sessions in one week to encourage resolution, for example, scheduling several 3 hour sessions. EMDR Intensives can be specifically and intentionally designed for you, please inquire about availability.

  • EMDR is just as effective over video as it is in person. The bilateral stimulation, (eye movements or tapping) that are central to EMDR therapy, can be done easily over video. The only difference with in person is if the therapist uses a light bar for eye movement or tappers. Otherwise, everything is the same and numerous studies have shown that virtual and in person therapy have the same outcomes.

  • As a Facilitator with the EMDR Institute, I can provide all 10 of your basic training hours. As an EMDRIA Approved Consultant, I can provide all 20 of your hours for EMDRIA Certification.

  • Your primary therapist may have referred you for a specific goal to address with EMDR Therapy. Often we do not have two therapists at the same time but with Adjunct EMDR Therapy, we are targeting a specific stuck point like negative self-beliefs, traumas and anxiety as you continue with your primary therapist. There is no need to stop seeing your primary therapist. Adjunct EMDR Therapy can help accelerate your progress in therapy, resolve stuck points, and improve overall well being.
