Meet Tanya Kaplow, Your Therapist in San Francisco
My Story
Though my original goal was to become a therapist, my career actually started as an intern in Community Development. I was working in community-based programs and had become passionate about addressing Food Insecurity. A Masters in Public Health was my logical next step when I experienced a profound traumatic loss. My life completely changed and I had therapy for the first time. It didn't take long to realize what I wanted was to get back to my original plan of being a therapist.
As I pursued my Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology, I took a special interest in studying Post-Traumatic Growth, the concept that we can not only heal from trauma but grow in ways we never imagined. I embraced mindfulness and self-compassion as tools to rebuild my life. After graduate school, I worked in schools for the next 6 years of my career and enjoyed working with children K-8 and their families. In 2021, after a short stint at a mental health start up working with adults, I decided to open my private practice so that I could focus on helping people heal from trauma.
My journey has taught me how life can suddenly pull the rug out from under you even when you think you have it all figured out. As a trauma survivor, I understand firsthand how chaotic and cruel life can be but also how unexpectedly beautiful and awe-inspiring it is. I’m here to guide my clients through this often challenging path which can feel like a long hike with twists and turns but is ultimately rewarding when you reach the top. I have enough hope for the both of us, and I hope you’ll reach out.
My approach is trauma-informed, collaborative, and straightforward. I truly believe that healing starts with a strong therapeutic relationship, so building that connection is my top priority. I’m here to help you find more stability and control in your life using practical tools that really work.
My Therapy Style and What You Can Expect
I also pay attention to how bigger systems shape who we are and how we experience the world. Bringing that understanding into our work, I focus on clear, goal-driven therapy that fits your unique story. Together, we’ll create a safe, supportive space where you can heal, grow, and gain the clarity you’re looking for.
Helping You Heal, Grow, and Find Clarity
My mission is to walk alongside you through the challenges of trauma and life’s difficulties, offering a compassionate, clear, and practical approach to therapy. I’m here to support your healing and growth in a way that feels real and grounded.
